Orange is the new Black Season 2
LJ, is really not that frequented anymore, is it?

It is still my favorite site, but I am less on the internet in general and ever since I don't have to say that much about Buffy anymore, I don't manage to post much.

Anyway, I thought I'd post briefly about the second season of Orange, which I completely wolfed down on the long weekend. I love this show and I think the second season lives up to the first one, even if I thought it was quite different. It's less focused on Piper and more on the other inmates and the conflict between V and Red.

Maybe I'll first get the things out of the way that I did not like so much. In some ways the break between the first and the second season felt a bit to harsh for some characters. Yes Suzanne is weird, but her following V so blindly felt a bit contrived. Also the turn Tucky took felt quite fast.

But otherwise I really enjoyed the season. I especially loved the sisters, Pousseys and Rozas backstories. I'm really sorry for Kaputo and his likely very short reign of joy, but that finishing shot with Roza hitting the road was worth it.

I also liked Lorna's backstory giving a twist to the whole Christopher story. I was very glad though that she seemed to have recovered by the end of the season.

I wasn't so sure in the beginning of the season but the finale was pure gold. Alone for that guard that played the Banjolele (??) at the nuns, staging his own anticatholic protest at their protest.

Maybe I'll make it to an actual review later on. Hopefully.
Did anyone watch yet?

I liked it too, and that ending was beautiful, I loved the turn I events, Lorna told Rosa to take the van to have a last whoopi, it was n't premeditated; and Rosa had the perfect opportunity to kill Vee because she was always rude, and she changed the vibes at the prison, it wasn't a personal revenge thing. I dug it :)

Plus the puns through the season were pretty cool! And some secondary characters were just perfect, like Gloria not wanting anything to do with the war between Red and Rosa but ultimately taking part. </p>

I loved that it was Rosa, who finally did in Vee. Had it been anyone inside the prison, their sentences would have gotten extended.

I was so afraid that it would have to be Tasty and this way it all cleaned up nicely.

Gloria was very cool this season.

Mendez little cameo was weird. I wonder where that plot will go next season. I guess this season covered way less time than the last one, so that they can have five seasons and still be inside Piper's sentence.
fangfaceandreafangfaceandrea on June 10th, 2014 04:46 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I was glad it wasn't anyone in the prison, specially after the screw up with that girl who looked like Vee from behind. Poor anonymous girl.

And what you said before about Pensatucky, it's was weird, like Piper gave her a personality change along with the concussion, but I liked her role this season, off center, but nice. And the gay agenda thing was hilarious.
flake_sakeflake_sake on June 10th, 2014 04:55 pm (UTC)
Yes, Pensatucky was positively sweet this season. With the teeth, the haircut and the gay agenda.

I found Riley's plot not half bad this season. With him using the inmates as his own way of playing therapy. That was such a weird abuse of power. Yet so credible.

I think it was good that they let Pensatucky fade a bit to the background, even if it felt a bit off.
fangfaceandreafangfaceandrea on June 10th, 2014 05:20 pm (UTC)
He is so creepy because I think he does want the inmates to be safe, and he wants to be helpful but his issues with women and with his own lack of power in his life make him dangerous and vindictive.
flake_sakeflake_sake on June 10th, 2014 05:44 pm (UTC)
Exactly, he actually honestly thinks he is nice, without getting the power dynamic and that he can't have a friendship with people that he is locking up.

It's weirdest with his wife, because again he doesn't get that she was sold to him on a website. He will never be a "nice" guy to her.
fangfaceandreafangfaceandrea on June 10th, 2014 04:48 pm (UTC)
Ah Mendez being the reasonable one next to Bennett was something, I'm still not sure how I feel about him.
flake_sakeflake_sake on June 10th, 2014 04:57 pm (UTC)
Yeah, that's another thing. Mendez was horrible in every conseivable way. And he did sleep with Daya, so he would go to jail anyway, even if Bennet stepped up.

I still hope Bennet will not succeed in goign to jail too.

I haven't seen Orange Is the New Black at all so can't comment on that.

Nice to see you, though.

flake_sakeflake_sake on June 10th, 2014 04:32 pm (UTC)
Thank you. :)

Sorry for being around so little and commenting so rarely. I'm mostly lurking these days. But LJ is still my favorite corner of the net.

I'm always late for the GoT discussion, because I watch it with a bunch of friends usually on thursday. And also last week was positively traumatic for me. I didn't remember that the viper died so horribly and I didn't like Oberyn Martell so much in the books.

Yes, it was horrible. It was one of those moments when you really wish the showrunners had said to themselves, "Screw the books. He's a great character. We'll find some way to keep him around." :(

There isn't actually a lot to say about the latest episode, but do chime in on my post after you've watched it.
flake_sakeflake_sake on June 10th, 2014 05:02 pm (UTC)
I agree. I loved him on the show and I would have loved to have him there till the end. But I guess his death triggers too much. At least we will get several other quite likable Martells next season.

But that deathscene was really horrible. I saw it in my head for days after I watched it. I have not been so affected by violence on tv ever since I was kid and I could really do without that.

I will jump in the second I've seen it the episode. :)

It was disgusting. I read spoilers of how it happened and had partly convinced myself that the show wouldn't go there in such detail.

Then they did.

I didn't watch at all. The minute Oberyn stopped stabbing and started taunting I hid my face behind my hands. If I ever watch that episode again I'll have to stop it the minute the Mountain knocks Oberyn over.
Lisashipperx on June 10th, 2014 05:32 pm (UTC)
Lucky you. I FORGOT how exactly he died and didn't hide my eyes until it was too late. ::shudder::
flake_sakeflake_sake on June 10th, 2014 05:46 pm (UTC)
Yes, that is exactly what happened to me too. In the first moment, I thought "WTF, show! Why did you have to make it even worse than in the books", but then I read up and found ok, they had just gone by the letter of the books. Yikes!

Shapinglight: oberyn and ellariashapinglight on June 10th, 2014 06:20 pm (UTC)
Never have I been so glad to be spoilered.

I also managed to stop myself getting very fond of Oberyn just before it was too late.
Lisashipperx on June 10th, 2014 05:31 pm (UTC)
Ditto! :D

:) Glad you dropped by! I'm a terrible lurker these days but LJ still remains the nicest place on the net, even if its a bit depopulated.
Lexieilowyn on June 10th, 2014 07:17 pm (UTC)
I'm only on episode 2 of season 2 so I'm not looking, but I'm glad someone else is watching it!
flake_sakeflake_sake on June 10th, 2014 07:39 pm (UTC)
Yes! I tried to go slow, but it was all out already and then I just couldn't stop.

I'm looking forward to you thoughts about the season. :)
Beer Goodbeer_good_foamy on June 10th, 2014 09:36 pm (UTC)
Good to see you around!

I finished it the other day, and I quite liked it, though I thought this season felt more "written" than season 1, if you know what I mean - as if they had resolved so much of the original conflict in season 1 and now had to invent a basic plot for the season with a big bad, a classic plot, etc. But hey, for the most part I thought it worked really well and served most of the characters - and I love that Piper gets pushed to the background.

And Rosa's final scene was just beautiful.
flake_sakeflake_sake on June 11th, 2014 07:55 am (UTC)
Good to see you too! :)

I agree about the whole thing feeling more plotted. I guess they could not draw so much from the book anymore and had to come up with there own continuous storyline.

But I liked it. Vee was one creepy villain and I liked the way it shifted the power dynamics around and put other characters on center stage.

I actually liked Piper much more this season, now that she took a step back and worked on bringing down Fig. I feel so sorry for Kaputo and all his good intentions, I wonder which horrible person they will pull out of the hat as his new Boss next season.
