So, should I take a look at crossbones? I'd really like a pirate show but Black Sails was so dull and had so many plastic women, that I could not watch it.
Is crossbones better? At least it's not Starz producing it.

I never watched Black Sails, so I can't compare, but Crossbones is... I mean, my reaction was pretty much "lolwhut JOHN MALKOVICH but I mean WHAT."

I doubt I'll keep watching, but this review should give you a sense of whether it's to your taste.

I had a look at it in the meantime too and it did compare very favorably with Black Sails, but that's not saying much since Black Sails was a train wreck of plastic surgery.

The plot was convoluted, but it was also kinda fun, I think I'll give it a few more eps to see if it improves.

It was OK. John Malkovich is always worth watching. The rest of it was very scenic, but the characters didn't particularly grab me. And the entire plot, such as it is, seems to be kinda-sorta based on John Harrison's marine chronometer for determining longitude... but it's entirely ignoring the fact that at the same general time Harrison was testing his chronometers, the lunar method was also being developed, and in fact became the standard for the next century or two. Oh, well, it's hard to steal the secret plans for the moon. :P

Hee :)
I didn't know that fact about the lunar method.

I watched the show now and I liked i. Not a lot, but at least it was way better than Black sails imho it has something to build on. I actually want to know more about some of the characters at least.
