So, Brazil
I got offered a two to three month stay in Brazil in the finishing stretch of my PhD (after I have handed in my thesis) and I'm quite excited. On one hand going that far away completely alone is scary as hell on the other hand I have never been to south America and it also sounds like a great adventure.

That sounds like an amazing opportunity!

I think so too. At the very first the thought made me kind of anxious but now I looked at the Uni on google maps and...Brazil!!! I have never seen the rainforest! RAINFOREST!!!

That does sound very exciting. When will you be going?

It Is, I am not completely sure yet. Either in August in the waiting time between handing in my thesis and the exam or (if it is possible to expedite the review of my thesis) in Oktober as a postdoc, which would be perfect. More time to prepare. I would have my PhD and get more money.

It's really exciting but the town is not so big (for Brazil) and looks really lovely.

Oh, congratulations! I bet it will be awesome. :)

I hope so! Thank you! I hope it works out! It will be farther away from home than I have ever been. I feel like a hobbit looking at the great wide world.

Don't even hesitate, just go!! It will be fantastic. Not least because it sounds like there's some sort of structure to the trip too, so you won't just be dithering in an airport. How exciting!

I think so too! I'm pretty much convinced I will go. It's only a matter of the exact when and if I will go still as a student or as a post-doc (which I would prefer).

It looks so cool there!
