Sherlock - 3.01
And as promised I am truly posting the second time in  a month that has barely started!
I just watched "the empty hearse" and I really loved it. It felt wonderful to have them back and all the reactions were handled brilliantly. I adore Mary and I loved all the Mycroft/ Sherlock suff. Very intriguing.

I presume there is still something more to come on the whole death faking issue but there is one thing I really don't get. I have not seen the last episode a second time and cannot remember it so well but wasn't the thing that Sherlock had to fake his death, so Moriarty's goons would not kill his friends? Why was all the faking done for John's POV instead of for the goons?

Ok, they argue that John had to believe it. I'm willing to go with that, but certainly the goons were more important? Instead it is said that Mycroft had already taken them out. Then why go through with the death faking at all? No matter the logistics.

I've a feeling we'll never hear any more about the fake death. I also think Moffatt was winging it.

But never mind. It was great fun. I loved Mary. I was really worried she would be set up as an antagonist to Sherlock ("hands off my man," kind of thing, and was so relieved that she wasn't).

Entirely possible. I think I wouldn't even mind much if he did. Doyle did the same after all.

Still the logic of playing it all to John instead of the goons bothers me a little (but not nearly enough to ruin my fun).

I also loved Mary and the way she was bonding with Sherlock. I think this is going to be a very nice season and I hope it wont be the last with Freeman being so awfully famous now.

I think it will be the last. Cumberbatch is also too big a star for the BBC now. He seems to be in demand everywhere.

I mean he certainly is becoming very famous now but mainly as Sherlock, or am I wrong there?

I mean Khan was nice and all, but I figured Sherlock was still the part he is known for?

There was a whole thing right after S3 was announced where Cumberbatch said that S4 was confirmed, too. Which he then quickly retracted. So no one was quite sure whether he actually made a mistake, or just misspoke as far as announcements go. Even if S4 has been contracted, they might not have wanted it out until after S3 had aired.

I really hope they will go on, but of course the actors have to look out to make money while they are so "in".

I hope there is still a chance because the seasons are so short and probably don't take so long to shoot.

They (Sherlock, Mycroft) needed to unravel Moriarty's network. This took Sherlock two years, and he could only do it if they all believed he was dead.

Still it seems very risky to bring in several other people and to focus on fooling John instead of focusing on fooling Moriarty's network.

But at any rate, I'm willing to go along with it.

That would be my question. Or, if he had to fake it then, why did he KEEP faking it after all the goons were taken care of?

It ruined things for me, TBH.

Elisi pointed out that they mentioned that they needed two years to get rid of Moriarty's network completely.

But still I don't get why the focus was so much on fooling John instead of fooling said network.

Narrativium I guess.
